Cost Effective Electric Single Deck Bus
MT17.0LE has been designed and developed from the ground-up to deliver clean, cost-effective urban transport.
MT17.0LE’s efficiency is made possible by one of the most efficient thermal management systems on the market, which keeps the motor, inverter and battery at optimum operating temperature, featuring a water-glycol cooling circuit augmented by the capture of thermal energy to heat the interior in cold conditions.
In addition, the bus utilises a novel, highly distributed electrical architecture for air quality monitoring to provide a lightweight solution for optimisation of air change to the outside environment, further improving HVAC efficiency.
Integrated into MT17.0LE’s chassis is Equipmake’s advanced propulsion technology; the HTM 3500 motor combines high torque with low motor speeds and is fitted directly onto the prop shaft negating the need for a separate gearbox. The unit produces maximum torque of 3,500Nm at just 1,000rpm and offers maximum power of 400kW. It is driven by a Semikron SKAI inverter with energy stored in a 315kWh lithium-ion battery pack – enough for a range of up to 150 miles on a single charge, enabling more than enough daily operating mileage.
The modular battery pack architecture facilitates configurability and optimisation for bus routes, and the BMS handles this flexibility without compromising functional safety.
The multipack BMS architecture supports up to 8 sub-packs, calibratable for any parallel/series configuration. The system works on a Master/Slave arrangement, with sub-pack controllers looking after individual packs and a Master controller collating data and interfacing with external systems.
The system can provide for redundancy, including the ability to disconnect individual sub-packs and still maintain overall battery system operation.
The multipack system builds on the ISO26262 ASIL C single pack Gen 5 BMS system developed by Potenza and will be taken through the full ISO26262 during 2020.
When the battery is depleted, it can be simply recharged at the depot overnight using a CSS DC charging point. Equipmake has worked with chassis builder Argale and coachbuilder Todo Bus to deliver this cost effective low entry BEV.
